The Autumn Statement documents have confirmed that the abolition of the lifetime allowance (LTA) for pension savings is on track and will be completed by April 6th of next year. The LTA, which is the maximum amount individuals can contribute to their pension without incurring tax charges, was announced to be removed in the Spring Budget. The government plans to pass legislation in the Autumn Finance Bill of 2023 to remove the lifetime allowance. This decision has made it challenging for financial advisers and clients to plan for the long term. Caitlin Sout, the pensions technical manager at Curtis Banks, noted that the Labour party has committed to restoring the LTA if they win the next general election.
