According to RIA, Russia might consider pursuing compensation in response to the explosions that occurred at Nord Stream. The leakage from Nord Stream 2 caused gas bubbles to reach the surface of the Baltic Sea near Bornholm, Denmark, indicating a disruption in an area that spans over one kilometer in diameter.
On Tuesday, a foreign ministry official stated that Russia will not make any requests for compensation until the investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines is complete. This information was reported by the RIA state news agency.
Explosions occurred last year, causing damage to the pipelines located beneath the Baltic Sea. Efforts to determine the responsible party are still ongoing.
When asked about compensation, RIA reported that Dmitry Birichevsky, who leads the economic cooperation department of the ministry, stated that the investigation is still ongoing and they are anticipating the presentation of its findings to the United Nations Security Council. Once the results are presented, they will determine the appropriate course of action.
Russia has accused the United States, Britain, and Ukraine of being responsible for the explosions that caused a significant decrease in its access to the profitable European market. However, these countries have refuted any involvement in the incidents.
The responsibility of conducting an investigation into the incident has been handed over to the governments of Sweden, Denmark, and Germany as the United Nations Security Council has declined to conduct its own inquiry.
