Investigation by The Times has uncovered that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, former Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp, and striker Jermain Defoe worked with an unlicensed agent in 2008. However, the Football Association (FA) did not take any disciplinary action against these alleged breaches of agent rules. The FA has now stated that they are open to reviewing evidence of these potentially serious violations in a transfer deal that involved Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, and Jermain Defoe.
During a confidential meeting in January 2008, The Times conducted an inquiry which revealed that during the transfer of Defoe from White Hart Lane to Fratton Park, it was discovered that the England striker, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp all engaged with an agent who did not possess a license during the negotiation process.
Instances of violating the rules set by FA agents have resulted in clubs facing point deductions and directors being banned. However, in this particular situation, no disciplinary measures were taken by the governing body. It is worth noting that during the same time period, Luton Town had ten points deducted from their overall score for contravening agent regulations.
