The WarGames continued, but they didn't conclude quietly.

The last main roster pay-per-view event of 2023 for WWE took place on Saturday, featuring a unique twist on one of its most iconic events, Survivor Series: WarGames.

On Saturday night, five wrestling matches occurred at Allstate Arena, which is known for hosting WrestleMania 22, located near Chicago. The main attractions of the night were the WarGames matches for both men and women.

The matches were incredibly thrilling, especially the WarGames matches for both men and women. Fans of WWE were excited to see Randy Orton make his return after being sidelined with an injury for a year and a half. But the surprises didn't stop there, as a major return occurred after the event, setting the stage for an exciting year ahead in 2024.

Below is a summary of what happened during Saturday night's events:

CM Punk makes a comeback. It's time to show his opponents what he's made of.

There have been rumors circulating for weeks, but CM Punk surprised fans by making a return to WWE after being absent from the company since 2014.

The crowd at Allstate Arena erupted in excitement when their local celebrity returned to the company and celebrated with them as the show came to an end.

In a men's war games match called The Judgment Day, Damian Priest, Finn Bálor, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Drew McIntyre emerged victorious against Cody Rhodes, Seth "Freakin" Rollins, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and Randy Orton. The main event started with Finn Bálor and Seth Rollins facing off in the ring, but Randy Orton was conspicuously absent from the cage with the rest of the team.

The match began with a strong performance from the two rivals, but The Judgment Day gained an early lead when JD McDonagh entered the ring with kendo sticks. The momentum of the match changed as new participants entered, with the crowd showing excitement for Jey Uso and Sami Zayn with chants like "yeet" and "ucey".

However, when it was Orton's turn to show up and assist his team that was in a difficult situation, no star was present to support team Rhodes.

During Judgment Day, Priest attacked Rollins by throwing him into a table, and unexpectedly, Rhea Ripley showed up to give the money in the bank contract. However, Orton finally arrived, causing the Allstate Arena to erupt in excitement.

Individually, the "Apex Predator" defeated each member of The Judgment Day with his classic techniques before the faction began to retaliate. This led to a chaotic battle, during which Uso and Orton faced off due to Uso being responsible for Orton's previous injury.

Uso landed a powerful kick on Priest, while each member of team Rhodes executed their signature moves on their opponents. Orton finished off the match with an RKO from the top of the cage on McDonagh, and Rhodes sealed the victory with a cross Rhodes on Priest during Orton's comeback.

In the Women's World Championship match, Rhea Ripley defended her title against Zoey Stark. Stark showed from the start that she wasn't going to back down easily in the most important match of her career so far. Ripley also brought intensity to the match right from the beginning.

During the confrontation, Ripley demonstrated her dominance and Stark tried to respond, but Ripley continued to push forward without stopping. Although Stark managed to land some hits, her sliding knee strike seemed to be her most effective move. However, Ripley ultimately showed her superior skills and abilities.

Ripley exited the Z-60 vehicle and performed the Rip Tide move to secure a victory and maintain her strong position in the women's division.

Dragon Lee stepped in to replace Carlito in the match against Santos Escobar, seamlessly adapting to the new situation. Despite the change, the bout remained fast-paced and filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Lee, a rising star on the team, demonstrated his skills in a match against Santos Escobar that captivated the audience. Despite appearing to have the match secured with a powerbomb, Escobar turned the tables with a destroyer move and ultimately emerged victorious. While the win may have only been for gaining respect within LWO, it has the potential to spark further conflict with Rey Mysterio.

In the match for the Intercontinental Championship, Gunther defended his title against The Miz. The Miz attempted to mess with Gunther's head by targeting his left knee, but Gunther fought back quickly and fiercely, landing strong hits on his opponent.

Gunther portrayed the villainous character and engaged the audience, dominating most of the match. The Miz targeted Gunther's knee with some strikes to gain an advantage, but was unsuccessful in executing his finishing move, the skull crushing finale. Gunther then attempted his signature powerbomb, but The Miz was able to kick out, becoming one of the few to do so. The Miz managed to deliver his finisher, but the champion also managed to kick out.

After exchanging moves quickly, the two wrestlers continued to fight. Gunther attempted a frog splash, but didn't land it perfectly. Despite this, Gunther managed to apply a submission hold similar to a sharpshooter on The Miz, forcing him to tap out and successfully defend his title in an unexpectedly impressive match.

In the Women's WarGames match, the team Damage CTRL (consisting of Bayley, Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, and Asuka) faced off against Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Shotzi. The match began with Bayley and Becky Lynch exchanging blows, but Dakota Kai interfered by hitting Lynch with a kendo stick from outside the cage and passing it to Bayley. Shotzi entered the match next and introduced chaos by using chairs and a steel trashcan in the ring.

Iyo Sky was the newest member of Damage CTRL and made a big impact in the ring, showcasing her flying abilities. The momentum of the match shifted as each new wrestler entered the ring, with highlights including Kairi Sane's impressive elbow drop assisted by Sky. Sky stole the show by climbing to the top of the cage, placing a trash can on herself, and fearlessly leaping onto all the other competitors.

Damage CTRL attempted to use various objects to defeat their opponents, but the tables turned when Flair leaped off the top of the cage to attack them. Lynch and Flair then executed a powerful move on Sane, giving team Belair the upper hand. Belair was able to counter Asuka's mist attack with a fire extinguisher, leading to Lynch ultimately defeating Bayley. In the end, team Belair emerged victorious against the women's group.

What is WarGames?

WarGames, a match created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987, stands out in WWE for its distinctive setup with two rings placed next to each other. It has been a regular part of WWE programming since its debut in NXT in 2017.

There are two rings enclosed by a cage made of steel bars with no roof, where two or three teams compete. The match starts with one member from each team inside one of the rings. After five minutes, another member from one team joins the match, creating a temporary 2-on-1 advantage. Three minutes later, a member from the team at a disadvantage enters to make it an even fight. This process continues with members from different teams entering the match until all competitors are in the rings.

To achieve victory in a match, a team must either pin or submit any member of the opposing team.

Randy Orton is set to make his return after being away for 18 months, marking the comeback of the renowned wrestler known as the "Viper".

Randy Orton is set to come back to WWE at Survivor Series as a member of the team facing off against The Judgment Day in the men's WarGames match. Cody Rhodes revealed Orton's return on this week's episode of "Monday Night Raw."

A highly respected wrestler had to take a break in May 2022 due to a real back injury during a championship match against The Usos on "Smackdown." Because of this injury, Orton couldn't participate in SummerSlam 2022, and his appearance on Saturday will mark his first for WWE in the year.

Gunther explains why he believes his reign as a wrestler was important. He believes in the importance of respecting the mat in wrestling, and he wants to showcase this belief during Survivor Series: WarGames.

The wrestler who held the Intercontinental Champion title for the longest period in WWE history will defend his title in Chicago against The Miz, who has won the title eight times.

Gunther has been portraying disrespect towards The Miz on screen by claiming that he is only an entertainer and not a legitimate wrestler. Gunther believes that the focus on entertainment rather than wrestling in WWE is becoming a concern, as he feels that many people on the roster fall into this category.

The speaker believes that a downside that has developed over time is that individuals have started taking themselves too seriously in the sport. They emphasize that the focus should be on the overall health of the sport rather than individual ego. The speaker feels responsible for defending these values against competitors like The Miz who prioritize their own image over the sport itself.

"That's why I had to rule; to make things right to some extent."

There is speculation among fans about the possible return of CM Punk to WWE, especially with an upcoming pay-per-view event taking place in Chicago.

A well-known wrestler who used to be a champion in WWE joined All Elite Wrestling in 2021, but was fired by the company on September 2nd for a specific reason. This happened after an incident involving him occurred backstage after the "All In" pay-per-view event in London.

After that, there has been a lot of talk and rumors about Punk possibly returning to WWE after not being a part of it since 2014. Fans have been eagerly searching for any clues that may suggest his comeback. It was also thought that Punk would be the fifth member of Rhodes' team in the WarGames match, but then Orton was revealed as the final member instead.

Many sources have stated that Punk will not be appearing at Survivor Series or joining WWE soon, but WWE has had unexpected surprises in the past, such as Rhodes' return in 2022. Therefore, it is not completely ruled out until Survivor Series concludes.
