Controversy at Sea: Nightmare Cruise Forced to Change Course to Tasmania Instead of New Zealand

Recent News

A controversial situation has arisen involving a cruise ship that was redirected to a different country than originally planned, causing uproar among passengers. Thank you for reaching out to us, we have received your message.

A company based in Australia, which was involved in a problematic cruise where passengers were taken to Tasmania instead of New Zealand, is facing additional allegations.

P&O Cruises Australia's two-week cruise in New Zealand, called Pacific Adventure, faced unexpected challenges when it was denied entry by New Zealand border control. As a result, the cruise had to quickly rearrange its plans and instead head to Tasmania.

A representative from the company told news.com.au that the schedule for the trip has been altered and, as a result, passengers on the current voyage will not be able to visit New Zealand.

Before starting their 13-day journey, guests were informed by the spokesperson that there may be substantial alterations to the planned schedule because of New Zealand's rigorous biosecurity regulations.

The ship departed from Sydney on Monday to have its hull cleaned in the Bay of Plenty, but due to bad weather, this was not possible. As a result, the planned itinerary had to be changed, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Due to a shift in the weather conditions, it has become too risky for divers to enter New Zealand, so we have been denied permission to do so.

Instead of traveling around New Zealand, the Pacific Adventure is now headed to Tasmania. We are excited for guests to have a great time exploring Hobart, Port Arthur, and Eden.

The representative mentioned that guests were given extra compensation, but did not disclose the details of the compensation offered.

A man from Australia, who had a relative on the cruise, informed news.com.au that P&O did not provide passengers with the option to receive a refund or reschedule their trip.

The man stated that the cruise company informed passengers about possible problems before the cruise began, but did not provide the option for a refund or rescheduling.

A communication sent to passengers on November 24, as reported by news.com.au, stated that passengers were given $300 ($197 US) on-board credit and a future cruise credit equivalent to 50% of the total amount paid for the cruise fare.

An individual who had traveled with the company before shared with news.com.au that the recent incident was not surprising for P&O, as they had experienced similar situations in the past.

"He mentioned that we experienced the same situation on our cruise last February," he shared.

Due to the hull needing cleaning, we were forced to stay at the Bay of Plenty for two days. This caused us to miss out on visiting both the North Island and parts of the South Island.

The man stated that the company had prior knowledge of the issue and criticized it as being the result of poor planning.

Many other Australians expressed their frustrations on social media, with one person stating that they wanted a refund and to leave the cruise ship.

Another person commented that what they were looking at was essentially something worthless disguised as valuable. They mentioned that their husband had asked for ET to come take it away.

"I really just want to return to my own home," someone else expressed discontentedly.

Mike Inglis, the northern regional commissioner for Biosecurity New Zealand, informed New Zealand TV that there were troubling levels of biofouling on the Pacific Adventure ship.

The regulations for biosecurity are established to defend against threats like invasive caulpera that could harm New Zealand's environment, special marine ecosystems, aquaculture sector, and economy.

According to him, the images sent by the operators of the ship displayed "organisms with a high risk level" that could potentially be a danger to New Zealand if the ship were to sail in its waters.

He mentioned that cleaning the bottom part of a cruise ship is tough and complicated, and it is usually influenced by the weather conditions.
