Kevin Walker, also known as Geordie, who was famous as the guitarist of the British rock group Killing Joke, has passed away at the age of 64.
Walker passed away on Sunday morning due to a stroke, as announced by the band on Instagram later that evening.
The band Killing Joke announced the passing of their iconic guitarist Kevin 'Geordie' Walker, who died after experiencing a stroke while being with his family. The band expressed their deep sadness and offered their condolences, calling Walker their brother and wishing him to rest in peace.
Jaz Coleman, Martin "Youth" Glover, and Paul Ferguson paid tribute to the deceased musician in a statement provided through the band's representative to USA TODAY on Monday.
Last week, I had a conversation with Geordie. He greeted me with "there he is" and despite having the flu, he was feeling positive and optimistic about the future," Coleman shared. "We have been through ups and downs before, and we will continue to support each other in the future. I have been by his side for 44 years."
Glover expressed that he is now soaring with The (Valkyries) and heading towards Valhalla. He made a significant impact on multiple generations with his brilliance. We feel privileged to have worked with him and embraced his vision for the band's potential.
Ferguson expressed deep sadness over the unexpected death of their bandmate. They had high hopes for the future, but sadly, the talented musician has played his final notes.
He mentioned that he felt privileged to be a part of the band with him, recognizing his exceptional talent and sense of humor, and noting that he did not tolerate foolishness.
Martin Atkins, the drummer for Killing Joke, expressed his sadness over the death of his bandmate in a post on Facebook on Sunday. He shared a music video from the industrial band The Damage Manual, a supergroup that included both Walker and Atkins.
Atkins wrote "Gutted" as the caption for the post.
Walker became a member of Killing Joke in the late 1970s after being asked to join by the band's original drummer, Ferguson, and lead singer Coleman. He joined bassist Glover to complete the band's lineup.
In October 1980, Killing Joke introduced their first album with the band's name. Throughout their career, the band has put out a total of 15 albums, including one in 2003 also titled "Killing Joke." The self-titled album included the song "Loose Cannon," which reached No. 25 on the Official Charts in the U.K.
