Geordie Walker, the guitarist of Killing Joke, has passed away at the age of 64. The band announced the sad news on Instagram, stating that he suffered a stroke and passed away in Prague while surrounded by his family. They expressed their devastation and offered their condolences, saying "Rest In Peace brother."

Born in England in 1958, Walker became a founding member of Killing Joke in 1978 after responding to a magazine advertisement by singer Jaz Coleman. The band released their debut EP "Turn To Red" in the following year, receiving early support from John Peel. Throughout the 1980s, Coleman and Walker were the central figures of Killing Joke, releasing seven studio albums that blended elements of post-punk, goth, metal, and alternative rock. The band also explored themes of the occult, relocated to Iceland to avoid an impending apocalypse, and experienced various changes in their lineup.

Killing Joke released music at a slower pace in the 1990s and beyond, taking breaks at times. However, they still released new music, with their most recent being the Lord Of Chaos EP in the previous year. Their music has influenced bands like Metallica, who covered their song "The Wait" early in their career, and Nirvana, whose riff in "Come As You Are" was compared to Killing Joke's "Eighties." Dave Grohl also played drums on the band's 2003 album.

In a eulogy for Walker, his close friend Luca Signorelli described Killing Joke, the band he led for four decades, as incredibly influential. Signorelli acknowledged that others may speak more eloquently about Walker's musical achievements, but what mattered most to him was the deep friendship they shared for 40 years. Walker was not just a bandmate, but someone who was as significant to Signorelli as a family member.
