West Bromwich Albion defeated Ipswich Town 2-0, ending their impressive unbeaten streak. This match took place on November 25, 2023, in the Championship league. This result was unexpected and generated 214 comments from fans and analysts.

West Brom regained a spot in the top six of the Championship by defeating Ipswich, ending their 12-game unbeaten streak in the league.

The team led by Kieran McKenna, who are aiming for promotion, had not lost a league game since 26 August when they were defeated by Leeds. Two impressive goals from Darnell Furlong and Grady Diangana highlighted West Brom's reputation as the top-performing team at home in the division over the past year.

The win also helped Carlos Corberan's team quickly recover from their first loss in five games, which occurred against Southampton before the international break. They were able to secure a spot in the play-off positions once again.

Furlong scored a header early in the game for the home team, and Diangana sealed the win with a well-executed counter-attack goal shortly after the second half began. This victory handed Ipswich their first away defeat in the league since January.

The match showcased a strong home team facing a tough opponent on the road, as West Brom has been successful at home with 50 points in the last year under Corberan. Ipswich's last away loss in the league was against Oxford 10 months ago.

The Baggies started the game strong with an excellent cross from Jed Wallace that narrowly missed being met by Brandon Thomas-Asante's diving header.

After the corner kick was taken, Matt Phillips kicked the ball in a curve towards the goal, and Furlong jumped up to head the ball into the net from the side of the goal.

West Bromwich Albion came close to scoring a second goal when Thomas-Asante's shot was saved by Ipswich goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky. However, Ipswich managed to get back into the game as Wes Burns missed a good opportunity to score after Conor Chaplin's assist.

Ipswich put pressure on West Brom at the beginning of the second half, but ultimately fell victim to a well-executed counterattack.

Conor Townsend calmly passed the ball from the back to Wallace, who quickly advanced over the halfway line and passed to Thomas-Asante on his right. Thomas-Asante then passed the ball to Diangana, who took advantage of the scrambling defenders and scored by slotting the ball in off the far post.

The outcome of the game was no longer in doubt, and the score could have been even more one-sided if Phillips had not missed a clear opportunity to score.

Once again, Wallace set up a scoring opportunity by running down the side of the field and passing the ball to the Scotland international close to the goal. The Scotland international attempted to score with the outside of his right foot, but ended up sending the ball in the opposite direction, keeping Ipswich engaged in the game.

Despite their efforts, the Baggies were unable to make a significant impact as they secured their fourth win in five games and climbed to fifth place in the standings. Tottenham loanee Dane Scarlett came close to scoring a goal towards the end of the match, which could have made for an exciting finish.

Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom, shared with BBC Radio WM.

Achieving success requires performing at a high level consistently. The team currently in first place has earned their position by excelling in various aspects of the game. To be successful, it is important to pay attention to every detail that could affect the outcome.

Today, I feel like the team's victory was largely due to the strong performances of each individual player on the field.

Today, we understood the importance of both defending and attacking effectively, especially when facing a team that has scored the most goals in the league. It is crucial to stay focused, not only when we are defending, but also when we have possession of the ball. We need to be able to manage the ball well, be proactive in our attacks, and avoid losing possession in a balanced position.

Ipswich's coach, Kieran McKenna, shared with BBC Radio Suffolk:

I believed that we did not give ourselves the opportunity to create a successful performance.

We allowed West Brom to score from the first corner, which made the first half easier for them as they prefer to defend rather than have possession of the ball.

We were able to maintain a steady performance in the game and control the ball for long periods, but they proved to be a challenging team to penetrate.

At halftime, we were prepared to make some adjustments. We started the second half with energy, but then the opposing team scored from our corner kick, making it challenging to come back against a strong team.

Starting players for the West Brom team are organized in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
